What is Western Dressage?
We like to think of Western Dressage as Ballet on Horseback. Synchronizing motion between rider and horse. The less visible the cues the greater the mastery. Western dressage is done by performing patterns. These patterns are called Tests and have been established by Western Dressage Association of America.
By using Western Dressage you can successfully train your own horse. Starting out with basic Walk /Jog tests in the Introductory Level you can progress through the Basic Level which adds the Lope. From there Level 1 - 3 get progressively more difficult as you and your horse master more skills and abilities. Western dressage can be done on any breed of horse - From Ponies to Draft Horses and any thing in between. This is also the perfect opportunity to work with your Gaited Horse. There will be separate classes for Gaited Horses at the Western Dressage shows. Western Dressage is a Partnership. It is the True Partnership of Horse and Rider. Western Dressage Rules and Tests can be found on the WDAA website. Please follow this link: |
